Last updated: 7 June 2026

Use of Service

Rail Buddy is an information service that displays live UK train times, departure boards, and delay-repay eligibility indicators. You do not need an account to use the core features. All content is provided for general information purposes only.

Age restriction

You must be at least 13 years old to use Rail Buddy. If you are under 18, you must have permission from a parent or guardian. We do not knowingly allow children under 13 to create accounts, and we will delete any account found to belong to a child under 13.

Account Security

If you choose to create an account, you are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your login credentials. You must not share your account with others. We will never contact you to ask for your password. If you suspect unauthorised access to your account, contact us immediately. We reserve the right to suspend or terminate accounts that violate these terms or remain dormant for more than 2 years.

Prohibited Use

You may not use Rail Buddy for any unlawful purpose. Specifically, you must not: use the service if you are under 13; interfere with the operation of the service; use automated tools to generate excessive requests; or attempt to gain unauthorised access to our systems. We reserve the right to suspend or block access for any user violating these restrictions.

Anti-scraping and API protection

You may not scrape, crawl, systematically extract, download, or republish any data from Rail Buddy without our prior written consent. This includes using automated scripts, bots, or API clients to access our endpoints. Our data feeds are licensed from third parties and are protected by copyright and database right. Unauthorised access may result in legal action and reporting to your ISP or hosting provider.

Feedback and user content

If you submit feedback, bug reports, feature requests, or corrections to us, you grant Rail Buddy a perpetual, irrevocable, worldwide, royalty-free licence to use, modify, and incorporate that feedback into our service. You confirm that you own the rights to any content you submit and that it does not infringe any third-party rights.

Service availability

We aim to keep Rail Buddy available at all times, but we do not guarantee uninterrupted access. The service may be unavailable during maintenance, upgrades, or due to factors outside our control (including third-party data feed outages). We reserve the right to modify, suspend, or discontinue any part of the service at any time without notice.

Delay Repay Information

For guidance only. The delay-repay features in Rail Buddy are designed to help you identify journeys that may be eligible for compensation. We do not submit claims on your behalf, guarantee eligibility, or process payments. You must always verify eligibility directly with the train operating company before submitting a claim.

Eligibility varies by operator. UK train companies operate different compensation schemes. Most major operators offer Delay Repay from 15-minute delays, but some smaller operators only begin compensation at 30 minutes. The amount of compensation depends on the length of the delay, the cost of your ticket, and the ticket type you hold.

28-day claim window. Claims must be submitted within 28 days of the delayed or cancelled journey. Claims submitted after this deadline may be rejected at the operator's discretion.

Fraud warning. Submitting fraudulent or exaggerated claims is a criminal offence and may be prosecuted. Only claim for journeys you actually made and delays you genuinely experienced. Always retain your ticket or proof of purchase as evidence.

Escalation. If you are unhappy with your train operator's response to a claim, you can escalate your complaint to the Rail Ombudsman or, in Northern Ireland, to Translink.

Intellectual Property

The Rail Buddy name, logo, and all content within the app are owned by us or licensed to us. You are granted a limited, non-exclusive right to use the service for personal, non-commercial purposes. You may not copy, modify, distribute, or create derivative works from any part of the app without our prior written consent. You may not frame, rebadge, or republish our content on another website or app.

Data Accuracy

Train times, platform information, and delay data are sourced from National Rail Enquiries and the Darwin Push Port real-time feed. While we make every effort to display accurate and up-to-date information, real-time data can change rapidly. Platform alterations, last-minute cancellations, and delays may occur after information is displayed. You should always check station departure boards or listen for announcements before travelling.

Attribution

Train times, platform information, and disruption data are provided under licence from National Rail Enquiries. Timetable data is sourced from Rail Delivery Group. Where required by our data licences, we acknowledge National Rail Enquiries as the source of real-time information.

Third-Party Content

Rail Buddy relies on data from third parties including National Rail Enquiries, Rail Delivery Group (timetable data), and individual train operating companies (delay repay portals). We are not responsible for the content, accuracy, or availability of third-party websites or services that you may access through links within the app.

Force Majeure

We shall not be liable for any delay or failure to perform our obligations under these terms where the delay or failure is caused by circumstances beyond our reasonable control, including but not limited to acts of God, war, civil disorder, industrial dispute, equipment failure, or third-party service outages.

Indemnity

You agree to indemnify and hold harmless Rail Buddy and its operators from any claim, loss, or damage arising from your misuse of the service, violation of these terms, or infringement of any third-party rights.

Limitation of Liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, Rail Buddy and its operators shall not be liable for any direct, indirect, incidental, or consequential loss or damage arising from your use of the service, including but not limited to: missed trains, missed connections, missed delay-repay claims, financial loss, or any decision made based on information provided by the app. Your use of the service is at your own risk.

Waiver

Our failure to enforce any right or provision of these terms at any time does not constitute a waiver of that right or provision unless we acknowledge the waiver in writing.

Third-Party Rights

These terms are between you and Rail Buddy. They do not confer any rights on third parties and are not intended to benefit anyone other than the parties to this agreement.

Entire Agreement

These terms, together with our Privacy Policy, constitute the entire agreement between you and Rail Buddy regarding your use of the service.

Consumer Rights

These terms are written in accordance with the Consumer Rights Act 2015. Where there is any conflict between these terms and your statutory rights as a consumer, your statutory rights shall prevail. Nothing in these terms affects your statutory rights.

Governing Law

These terms and your use of Rail Buddy are governed by the laws of England and Wales. Any dispute arising from these terms shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales.

Severability

If any provision of these terms is found to be invalid or unenforceable, the remaining provisions shall continue in full force and effect.

Changes to Terms

We may update these terms from time to time. Any changes will be posted on this page with an updated "Last updated" date. Continued use of the service after changes constitutes acceptance of the revised terms.

Data Protection

We process personal data in accordance with the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR) and the Data Protection Act 2018. For full details on how we collect, use, and protect your data, please see our Privacy Policy.
